Togo has become the 80th member of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF).
This integration was made official at the opening of the organization’s 18th Annual General Meeting, held in Geneva (Switzerland) from November 7 to 10, 2022. The event was attended by a Togolese delegation comprising Kossi Adjehoun, Director of Mining Development and Control, and Blaise Gozan, Technical Advisor to the Minister Delegate to the President of the Republic in charge of Energy and Mining.
For Togo, joining the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) is part of the mining sector reform drive launched by the Head of State. His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé’s vision of Togo’s development, embodied in the Government Roadmap 2020-2025, aims to develop the country’s mining sector on a sustainable basis. The government’s objective is to reduce poverty and increase the socio-economic impact of mining on the Togolese population, while minimizing negative impacts and preserving the environment.
“We have chosen to join the IGF, with the aim of obtaining sound advice and the technical support needed to pursue the transformation of our mining sector and succeed in making it a real driver of sustainable economic growth and a major lever for wealth and job creation” , said Blaise Gozan.
The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) has welcomed Togo as a new member, and is ready to place its expertise and the experience of its various member countries at Togo’s disposal.
“On behalf of our members and staff, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Togo. We look forward to supporting the new member country in achieving their national goals through good mining governance”, said FMI Director Greg Radford.
